CINCINNATI -- If you drive on Interstate 71 near Downtown Cincinnati, major changes could affect your commute later this month.

And by "affect," we mean possibly make it longer.

From 10 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday, the right lane of southbound I-71 will be closed from Reading Road to the Lytle Tunnel.

Then Thursday, the two left lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Friday; the Third Street exit will be closed.

On Friday, the two left lanes of southbound I-71 will be closed again, lasting from 10 p.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday (and, yes, the Third Street exit is closed, too, from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday).

In fact, if you're driving overnight, you may want to use another route entirely: Crews may need to shut down for brief periods between 1 and 5 a.m. Saturday, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Once all that's done, traffic will be shifted to the west side of southbound I-71 through the Lytle Tunnel for about six months.

While work's underway, expect to see law enforcement officers through this stretch (so, you know, drive carefully).
