CINCINNATI — A 70-year-old man died Thursday night, hours after striking a semitrailer from behind on Interstate 75.
Police said pickup driver Carl Swanigan, 70, ran into the back of the semi and became trapped in his vehicle around 4:30 p.m. He was extricated by first responders and taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he died.
The scene briefly shut down the lefthand lanes of I-75 between I-74 and Mitchell Avenue.
According to police, investigators do not believe speed or impairment were factors in the crash. The semi driver was not injured.
