CINCINNATI -- The weekend is here. It's Saturday August 27.

ON THIS DATE: It was August 27, 1978 that the Reds Joe Morgan hit his 200th home run. He became the first player in major league history to have 200 home runs and 500 stolen bases.

LOOKED LIKE TROUBLE:  Videographer Tony Mirones sent back some highlights about 6 o'clock Friday night from the McNicholas-Turpin game which began at at 5p.m. There was a shot of colorful fans, with the background of a a scary-looking coal-black sky. It sure didn't look like a gentle drizzle was on the way. It would be a long night with hardly any football being played. There wasn't much rain either, but there was a lot of lightning and it kept officials and administrators from getting on the field, or making teams get off the field in a hurry. Each lightning strike brings a new delay and before long, it wasn't worth it. Most games were done before they started. Elsewhere at wcpo.com, you can find a list of games that have been re-scheduled for Saturday.

DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR? You might recall that it was just about one year ago that we had the same kind of Friday night weather. We also got a lot of rain that night and the entire slate of games was wiped out.

DEBUT: Alex Wimmers from Moeller and Ohio State made his major league pitching debut Friday night for the Minnesota Twins. He pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

BIG SIGH OF RELIEF: Madeira's Andrew Benintendi went through another series of tests on Friday and they reaffirmed the original diagnosis of no structural damage to his sprained left knee. Benintendi, who was injured on Wednesday, was walking around the clubhouse without a brace on Friday. He's on the 15-day disabled list.

Have a fabulous week, I hope it's the last hot one of 2016.
