CINCINNATI -- The Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown has updated its schedule for six games previously planned for Nippert Stadium this August.

Last week, area high school football games were moved off the University of Cincinnati campus Aug. 25-26 due to NCAA legislation that mandates a dead period from games on Football Bowl Subdivision campuses in August.

Showdown organizers worked with high school administrators from the participating schools the latter part of the week to determine plans and sites.

The games have been moved to either a host school or neutral venue with the site selections made in the best interest of the participants and the fans, according to Tom Gamble, president of In-Game Sports.

“We look forward to commemorating the greatest games, moments and players who have made the Showdown so special as we celebrate the 20-year anniversary,” Gamble said.

As WCPO.com first reported on the discussions last week, La Salle (13-2 in 2016), the reigning three-time Division II state champions, and Colerain (11-1) have agreed to a home-and-home series for 2017 and 2018.

This year’s game will be played at La Salle (7 p.m. kickoff). Colerain will host La Salle in 2018, according to Gamble.

Other games in this year’s Showdown that were previously scheduled at UC include Milford (2-8) at Oak Hills (4-6), Lakota East (5-5) at Walnut Hills (4-6) and Elder versus Lakota West at Princeton. All those games start at 7 p.m. Aug. 25.

On Saturday, Aug. 26, St. Xavier will play Hinsdale Central (Illinois) at 5 p.m. at Princeton.

St. X (10-5), the reigning Division I state champion, has the longest active streak of consecutive playoff appearances (eight) among D-I area teams.

Hinsdale, a Chicago-area program, is a consistent playoff qualifier. Its conference, the West Suburban Silver, is among the strongest in Illinois. Hinsdale’s conference rival Lyons Township High School quarterback Ben Bryant is verbally committed to UC.

Moeller (4-6) plays at Hamilton (5-5) at 7 p.m. Aug. 26.

The Showdown starts Aug. 18with two games (Highlands at Cooper and East Central at Lawrenceburg). The first Ohio Showdown game is Aug. 23 when Deer Park plays host to Hughes at 7 p.m.

Official Ohio High School Athletic Association football practice begins July 31.
