Sycamore senior running back Ra’Von Bonner verbally committed to Illinois Tuesday night.

"I think Illinois is a great fit for him,” Sycamore coach Scott Dattilo told WCPO.com. “It felt like home. I know he liked the coaching staff. I think with Ra’Von it was mostly a matter of comfort. I know his dream has been to play in the Big Ten."

Bonner, one of the state’s top running backs, has 782 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns this season. He had a season-high 288 yards and five touchdowns against Hamilton Sept. 16.

"The atmosphere is so amazing and I love the coaches," Bonner told WCPO.com. "I visited the first two games (of the season)."

Bonner also had offers from UC, among other schools, during the recruiting process. National Signing Day is Feb. 1.

He needs 439 yards to pass Paul Jordan’s school career rushing yards mark of 3,769, according to Dattilo. Jordan played at Sycamore from 1969-'72.

“He’s done a great job,” Dattilo said. “The first half of the season -- he’s had some crazy numbers.”

Sycamore plays at Fairfield Friday night.

"i look forward to giving everything i have these next five weeks in order to get us back in the postseason," Bonner said.
