FRANKLIN, Ohio – Luke Kennard sold out area gymnasiums, won two Ohio Mr. Basketball awards and received a shout-out his senior year from LeBron James.

The Duke sophomore guard had quite the high school experience in Franklin, Ohio. And in his second season with the top-ranked Blue Devils he’s already garnered attention from NBA scouts.

This week’s WCPO High School Insider Podcast with Mike Dyer has a special interview with Franklin boys’ basketball coach Brian Bales, who is also the school’s athletic director.

Bales remains close with Kennard and his family. Bales attended four Duke games last season in Durham and plans to travel for contests this winter.

Sitting in his office last week, Bales exchanged text messages with Kennard a few hours before Duke’s season opener.

You will hear some of Bales’ favorite memories of Kennard at Franklin, how the former McDonald's All-American has adjusted to college life and what might be in the works for Duke this season.

You will also learn how Kennard, who is second on Ohio's all-time career points list, returned this summer to work out with other college players inside Franklin's gym.

Dyer, WCPO sports director John Popovich and TriStateFooball.com’s Greg Shoemaker also discuss the football playoffs and take a look at the top matchups this weekend.
