After allowing 14 points in the first quarter, Mason allowed just one fourth-quarter field goal in the final 36 minutes and successfully held off Fairfield for a 21-17 win on Friday.

Mason initially took the lead on a 5-yard touchdown catch from Jake Harris to Cameron Buford, but the Indians tied it on an Ethan Burch TD catch and went ahead five minutes later on an Aaron Carmack 1-yard run.

Late in the second quarter, Harris hooked up with Austin Croy for a 60-yard score and tied the score at 14.

The Comets' Matt Sora ran in the decisive score in the third quarter -- his seventh ground score of the season -- from a yard out.

A 21-yard field goal by Fairfield cut it to four, but the Indians could not close the gap.

Michael Kopaygorodsky led Mason in ground yards with 70, and Harris finished 6 of 11 for 138 yards.

James Mitchell carried the ball 12 times for 73 yards in the Fairfield loss.

Both teams are on the road next week: Fairfield will to Colerain while Mason travels to Lakota East.
