GREEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio – The La Salle and Colerain athletic departments have agreed in principle for their football teams to play in the 20th annual Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown in 2017.

The game will be played at Nippert Stadium in 2017 on either a Friday or Saturday, according to Showdown organizer Tom Gamble. It will be a one-year agreement.

“I’m extremely excited to have one of the marquee games like this for the 20th annual Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown,” Gamble told WCPO. “More details will follow but I hope this spurs other local schools to agree to play one another in the event next season.”

Friday's La Salle (2-0) at Colerain (2-0) game (7 p.m. kickoff) is the final of a home-and-home agreement that was set in place for 2015 and ’16.

Colerain is ranked No. 7 nationally by the USA Today Super 25 computer rankings and No. 7 by the MaxPreps computer rankings.

La Salle, the two-time reigning Division II state champion, is ranked No. 25 by the USA Today computer rankings and No. 13 in the Midwest by MaxPreps.

For Colerain, Friday’s agreement fills its 2017 schedule. The Cardinals agreed to renew with St. Xavier last week, just hours before its kickoff with the Bombers. The Greater Miami Conference goes to an eight-game conference schedule in 2017.

La Salle athletic director Keith Pantling said the Lancers have also filled their schedule for 2017.
