The season isn’t even half way finished and it has already been a breathtaking, adventurous journey. If the back half of the schedule is anything like what we have already seen, we're in for a great season.
The cream is starting to rise to the top of crop; conference play is underway in Ohio and several schools are making midseason statements. Now comes the back stretch where we see who has the perseverance to build a castle out of the foundations they have laid.
There are 15 teams that still don’t have a loss. Those numbers will dwindle even more as there are three games with unbeaten clashing this weekend. Colerain is the only Division I school with four wins at this point.
Here is a look at how things are shaping up in this week’s update:
Rankings – Ohio Division I
What a weekend it was for Greater Catholic League South! Elder, Moeller and St. Xavier picked up some very impressive wins, once again showing that the conference is one of the premier leagues in the country.
Also coming away with huge victories were No. 1 Colerain and No. 2 Wayne. The duo handled a pair of Division II powerhouses in Princeton and Miamisburg, respectively. The distance in the rankings between Wayne and Colerain is ever so slight.
Unfortunately for those aforementioned GCL South squads, they did not move in the poll; all the other ranked teams (except Hamilton) won last weekend. The top nine poll positions remain the same as they did a week ago, with Beavercreek replacing Hamilton in our top 10.
Rankings – Ohio Division II and III
The top two teams fell last week, but still keep their position in this week’s rankings. Despite its second straight loss, La Salle still remains our top ranked team. Miamisburg was not penalized for falling to Division I No.2 Wayne.
The top five spots in our poll have not changed. The biggest mover in the rankings is Troy, who jumped over Trotwood-Madison and switched positions with Princeton. The Trojans face off with Miamisburg this weekend.
There are no newcomers in our top 10, but Walnut Hills is at the door with a battering ram. The Eagles will take on Turpin this Friday night in a battle of unbeatens. Mount Healthy, Troy and Franklin are the other schools without a blemish on their records.
Rankings – Ohio Division IV-VII
There is a new sheriff in town as Alter corrals the top spot in our rankings. The Knights supplant Indian Hill at No. 1. A double overtime loss to Wyoming dropped the Braves two notches and just below the Cowboys.
Poll positions four through 10 all remain the same; Taft is the only other top 10 team that lost. The Senators have two heartbreaking losses: last Friday by five points to CHCA and by three to Wyoming earlier in the season.
Rankings – Northern Kentucky
Simon Kenton has set the benchmark on the south side of the Ohio River. The Pioneers handled Cooper for the third time in their last 15 games. They are 34-1 in their last 35 regular season games.
