HS football: Rankings heading into Week 9

Posted

CINCINNATI -- With just two weeks left in the regular season, the action is intensifying on the high school gridiron as Tri-State area teams jockey for playoff positioning. Here's a look at TriStateFootball.com's latest team rankings, which show some interesting story lines developing as the calendar nears November.

Ohio Division I
It was a rough week for Greater Catholic League South teams: St. Xavier and Elder both suffered upset losses. Elder dropped three spots in the rankings after peaking at No. 3 two weeks ago. The only other team in the Top 10 that loss was Beavercreek, who fell to No. 9 Centerville. The Battlin’ Beavers have their work cut out again this Friday as they host No. 2 Wayne in the only game that pits Top 10 squads against each other. Complete rankings here.

Ohio Division II-III
There's a big shake up in this week’s Division II-III rankings after Mount Healthy and Trotwood-Madison lost their third games of the season. Glen Este, Kings and Winton Woods all jumped up two spots. Expect more changes as this weekend’s action sees six of our Top 10 teams be facing off against each other. Complete rankings here.

Ohio Division IV-VII
Another strong showing by the small schools has the Top 10 for Division IV-VII remaining the same. The combined record of our ranked teams now stands 73-7. Friday night’s schedule has a couple of great tilts that could rattle the bottom half of the rankings -- No. 9 Reading welcomes in No. 7 Wyoming and No. 5 CHCA looks to end No.10 Cincinnati Country Day’s winning streak. Complete rankings here.

Northern Kentucky
Two of the Top 8 Northern Kentucky high school teams lost this past weekend. Conner and CovCath dropped in the rankings and Scott finally got out of the No. 8 slot. Look for more changes next week with a pair of contests between ranked teams as district plays comes to an end in the Bluegrass State. Complete rankings here.
