Contractor drowned in holding tank at Metamora Wastewater Treatment Plant

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. -- Authorities are investigating after a contractor drowned at a Metamora wastewater plant.

Authorities found the body of Mickey A. Lounsbury, 63, inside a holding tank at the Metamora Wastewater Treatment Plant at about 6:34 p.m. on Wednesday.

Lounsbury, of Harrison, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary autopsy reports from the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office indicated that Lounsbury drowned.

“This is a tragic loss and our thoughts and condolences go out to the Lounsbury family.” Franklin County Sheriff Peter Cates said in a written statement.

Deputies’ preliminary investigation revealed Lounsbury’s death was an accident. He was a private contractor hired for testing and maintenance at several wastewater treatment facilities and often works alone.

Lounsbury’s death remains under investigation by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
