Colerain standout Jones commits to Iowa State

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Colerain senior quarterback Deshaunte Jones verbally committed to Iowa State on Monday night.

Jones, an Associated Press Ohio Mr. Football finalist,  also considered the University of Cincinnati, Georgia Tech and Wisconsin in recent weeks. 

Jones, who was being recruited as a quarterback and athlete, was the Southwest District Division I Offensive Player of the Year in 2015.

Jones rushed for 1,860 yards and 29 touchdowns and threw for 785 yards and nine touchdowns as he led the Cardinals (12-2) to their first state semifinal appearance since 2006.

Jones, who is 5 feet 10 and 175 pounds, was a two-time Greater Miami Conference Offensive Player of the Year. He accounted for over 5,500 total yards and 74 touchdowns in his three years at Colerain.

National Signing Day is Wednesday. Colerain has a ceremony scheduled for 7 a.m. Wednesday.
