Pead, a Columbus native, is currently a free agent. He was drafted by St. Louis in the second round of the 2012 NFL draft. The Rams let Pead go in 2013 after he violated the team's substance abuse policy.
He went on to play or the Steelers and the Dolphins; he was released by the Dolphins in October.
Columbus police told the Columbus Dispatch that Pead was not wearing his seatbelt during the serious car crash on Nov. 12.
