CINCINNATI -- FC Cincinnati signed Xavier grad Garrett Halfhill to an amateur contract for the rest of the season.
The 6-foot-2 defender played for FCC in a friendly against the University of Cincinnati earlier this season. He's expected to see the pitch again Wednesday night, in the second-round U.S. Open Cup match against AFC Cleveland.
He will be eligible to play in all U.S. Open Cup and United Soccer League matches. He has been part of the team’s practice squad.
Halfhill, 23, was a letter-winner at Xavier from 2011 to 2014 and captained the squad his senior year.
He came to Cincinnati from Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Big East All-Tournament Team selection holds the career record with 84 matches played and is tied for first in the season annals for matches played and started with 23. He had six goals in his collegiate career with three registered in 2014.
Halfhill was a Most Valuable Player at Landstown High School and helped his team win the 2008 Beach District Championship.
