DAYTON, Ohio — University of Dayton basketball player Steve McElvene has died, WHIO reports

McElvene, 20, died at 11:19 a.m Thursday, according to the Allen County (Ind.) Coroners Office.

WHIO reports McElvene collapsed at his family’s home.

“Enlarged heart is believe to be the cause,” Glenn Marini, the sports Director at WANE-TV in Fort Wayne, wrote on Twitter.

McElvene, a 6-11 center from New Haven High School (Ind.), has been at UD for two seasons. He sat out the 2014-15 season as a NCAA partial qualifier but practiced with the team all season. Last year was his first season on the court. He set a UD record for blocks (55). He averaged 6.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game.
