STARKSVILLE, Miss. — University of Cincinnati basketball player Tre Scott couldn’t attend the fall graduation ceremony on campus Saturday, but coach Mick Cronin arranged so his forward wouldn’t miss out on the pomp and circumstance.

Wearing caps and gowns, Cronin presented a diploma to Scott as teammates cheered during Saturday’s warmup at Humphrey Coliseum, where UC was getting ready to play Mississippi State.

Scott earned his degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in just 3 ½ years.

UC said 24 student-athletes were awarded degrees Saturday, including former soccer player Omar Cummings, who played with FC Cincinnati. Cummings left UC in 2007 after being selected 31st in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft by the Colorado Rapids. Cummings played eight seasons in MLS and parts of the 2015 and 2016 campaigns with FC Cincinnati before retiring from the sport.
