UC uses big second half to upend South Florida

CINCINNATI (AP) — Troy Caupain finished with 18 points and a career-high 10 assists while Gary Clark added 16 points and 13 boards as Cincinnati used a strong second half to beat South Florida 88-57 Thursday night.

Clark's collected double digits in rebounds in five of the last nine games.

The Bearcats led 36-29 at the half. Out of the break, Farad Cobb hit a 3, Octavius Ellis made a layup and a three-point play by Clark made it 44-31 with 17:42 remaining. The lead swelled to 59-32 after Caupain made two free throws.

 

Cincinnati (17-6, 7-3 American Athletic) got 11 points each from Coreontae DeBerry and Jacob Evans while Cobb and Ellis had 10 apiece. The Bearcats had just seven turnovers to 21 for South Florida (5-19, 2-9). Cincinnati shot 29 for 64 from the field (45.3 percent).

Jahmal McMurray finished with 17 points for the Bulls. Bo Ziegler and Jaleel Cousins each had 10 for South Florida.
