CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati junior guard Troy Caupain and sophomore forward Gary Clark have earned American Athletic Conference honors the league announced Tuesday.
AAC coaches voted Caupain to the first team all-conference and put Clark on the second team.
Caupain was second in assists (4.8) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.6) in 32.6 minutes per game. He also ranked among the league leaders in scoring (18th at 12.4 points) and free throw percentage (10th at .778). Caupain’s 4.8 assists average is the highest by a Cincinnati point guard since Taron Barker averaged 5.0 in 2002-03.
Clark ranks among The American’s leaders in six categories entering the postseason: offensive rebounds (second at 3.5), rebounds (second at 8.9), blocks (fifth at 1.5), steals (tied for sixth at 1.3), field-goal percentage (seventh at .528) and scoring (27th at 10.6).
UC (22-9) opens play in the AAC Tournamentagainst UConn (21-10) at 2 p.m. Friday.
