CINCINNATI -- Troy Caupain scored a career-high 25 points and Cincinnati edged Memphis 76-72 on Thursday.

Caupain was 9 of 16 from the floor and perfect on six free throw attempts for the Bearcats (14-6, 4-3 American). Shaq Thomas scored 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting and Octavius Ellis added 10. Cincinnati shot 50 percent despite making just 4 of 14 3-point attempts.

Memphis (12-6, 3-2 American) was led by Trahson Burrell with a career-high 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Avery Woodson scored 18 points -- with five 3-pointers -- and Shaq Goodwin added 13. The Tigers made 10 of 22 from beyond the arc. Ricky Tarrant Jr, who came in averaging 13.7 points, finished with two points.

Burrell's 3-pointers with 2:43 left drew Memphis to within two, at 72-70. The Tigers turned it over on their next possession, and then missed four straight 3-pointers down the stretch. Caupain made four consecutive free throws in the last 1:08 to ice it.
