CINCINNATI — Speculation continues after rumors emerged that Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips would be moving to Washington, D.C.
Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal first reported the potential trade with the Washington Nationals earlier this week, but has since said Phillips vetoed the deal.
According to the report, the 34-year-old star player would have had to waive a no-trade clause in his contract, which also would have required a payout of some amount by the Reds.
ESPN also reported that the Nationals moved on from their pursuit of the fan-favorite second baseman, saying “negotiations had reached a standstill by Friday night.”
