GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Right-hander Blake Wood is different from the Reds'  other spring invitees from outside the organization.

Wood, 30, is here on a big-league contract. He went 2-5 with a 3.53 ERA with 29 saves for Indianapolis, Pittsburgh’s Triple-A team.

“What we like about him is he has experience in the big leagues (with Kansas City and Cleveland),he has some experience closing in Triple-A,” Price said. “He’s got three years major-league experience. He’s got a big arm. It’s a power arm – 95-98. A good slider and split.

"You look over there at Pittsburgh and see the bullpen he was trying to crack last year, along with A.J. Morris. That’s hard to push for opportunities at the big-league level. We’re hoping we found a guy that should have been in the big leagues last year but wasn’t based on his circumstances, that can give us some experience in our bullpen.”
