COVINGTON, Ky. — The owners of Revival Vintage Bottle Shop plan to put a new spin on well-aged bottles of bourbon when their tasting room and retail store opens on Aug. 7.

“The bourbon and spirits community loves to learn – from barrels to bottles, process to tastings,” said Brad Bonds, one of Revival's founders in a press release. “The intersection of education and a uniquely curated experience is what sets Revival apart. We’re not giving tasting tours. Each individual’s tasting experience will be crafted around their questions, interests and general curiosities.”

Bonds is joined by Katie Meyer and Shannon Smith in opening Revival at 5 E. Eighth St. in Covington.

The three founders said that while other bourbon bars exist already in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati, what makes Revival unique is not just the variety of vintage bottles of bourbon Bonds has curated for purchase and tasting.

Collectors of vintage bottles of bourbon also will be able to have their bottles professionally appraised and exchanged or sold at Revival.

“The vintage spirits law enables us to buy bottles from private collectors and offer the general public an opportunity to legally purchase and sell unique and rare spirits many seek but will likely never find,” Smith said. “We are excited for the opportunity to offer vintage bourbons and other spirits by the package and by the pour alongside their modern counterparts.”

Beyond the tasting room, Revival will offer a subscription membership program that will include a monthly gift box of tasting samples, invitation-only events and pre-release notes of newly acquired bottles.

Revival's owners had hoped to open their store earlier but COVID-19 delayed those plans.

“COVID-19 has presented its fair share of challenges for small business owners,” Meyer said “However, it has also presented new opportunities and allowed us to improve our e-commerce model to better serve clients where they are most comfortable.”

Revival’s retail hours will be 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday-Sunday. Tastings, for a group of eight or less, are by appointment only, 6-10 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, or 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

The owners also said that in order to follow social distancing guidelines, only 21 people will be permitted in Revival’s retail space at one time and visitors are required to wear masks. For more information, visit revivalky.com.
