At 1 p.m. Friday, the Coast Guard received a report that the towing vessel known as Ed McLaughlin capsized on the Ohio River near the West Virginia border.

The vessel, owned by McGinnis Marine, had an estimated 4,900 gallons of diesel fuel on board, and reports said a light sheen could be seen around the vessel. Members from the Marine Safety Unit of the Coast Guard were dispatched to investigate whether the vessel was leaking fuel, and to provide assessments of potential environmental and waterway impacts.

All three members of the vessel's crew were rescued and transported to a local hospital, and are in stable condition.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
