A blown front tire sent a southbound tractor-trailer careening across the median of I-71 Tuesday afternoon, striking and killing two drivers traveling in the opposite direction.

The wreck shut down both sides of the interstate for hours. The road would not fully reopen until 11 p.m.

According to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, drivers Karen Stutrud, 63, and Timothy Brown Sr., 55, died at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer and a passenger were taken to Clinton Memorial Hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said all three drivers were wearing seatbelts and investigators did not suspect any were driving under the influence.
