CINCINNATI -- Ohio Gov. John Kasich snubbed fellow Republican Donald Trump by instead casting a write-in vote for Sen. John McCain for president, ABC News reported.

Kasich's spokesman told ABC News that he otherwise voted for Republican candidates down his ballot.

The Republican governor and opponent of Trump during the Republican primary has remained critical of the nominee, calling Trump's comments about women "indefensible" and saying that Trump should apologize to President Barack Obama for questioning his citizenship.

Kasich also skipped Trump's nomination celebration at the Republican National Convention, even though it was held in Ohio. He also previously said he wouldn't vote for Trump and said he wouldn't vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton.
