COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio on Monday reported another daily spike in coronavirus cases, the latest in a series of higher-than-average day-to-day increases.

The 729 cases reported Monday followed a spike of 609 cases Friday and 700 cases reported a day earlier. The 729 was the largest daily increase since 731 cases reported on May 21.

So far, Ohio has avoided an ongoing surge in cases since reopening its economy, unlike several other states.

The Health Department’s daily case count reflects results received within the past 24 hours, with tests typically conducted within the past 36 hours. But people could have experienced symptoms within the past two weeks.

The state had more than 45,500 confirmed or probable cases as of Monday. Ohio has recorded 2,704 confirmed or probable COVID-19 deaths.
