DAYTON, Ohio — Investigators estimate a car carrying eight family members was traveling at least double the speed limit before it crashed into a tree, killing four and injuring four on Christmas Day, according to Dayton police.

The four people killed in the crash are:

· Renee D. Jones-Blevins, 49, the driver;
· Quaishia M. D. Jones, 28;
· Tae’Kwaun Jones, 10;
· Mae’Iah Jones, 5.

The four children injured in the crash remain in critical condition at area hospitals, the Dayton Daily News reported. Their ages range from 1 to 12.

Police were not sure if all of the occupants are immediate family members or extended.

The crash occurred near the intersection of West Third Street and Brooklyn Avenue around 11 a.m. The car split in two and caught fire.

The marked speed limit where the crash occurred is 35 mph.

Police said the car, a Dodge Avenger, was designed to carry up to five people.
