COLUMBUS, Ohio -- An abused, abandoned puppy became an honorary officer for a night after Columbus police rescued him off the street, according to the Columbus Division of Police's Facebook page

Officer Morse -- so named because he was rescued on Morse Road -- first came to the police department’s attention when a 911 caller reported a man tossing a leashed puppy out the window of his car.

Although police did not locate the man, they tracked down Officer Morse, fed him and let him ride along in their cruisers for the rest of the night.

"Officer (Jennifer) Alicea found him a temporary home, but I’m sure his forever home is coming soon," Sgt. Aaron Ward wrote on Facebook.

We’re sure, too. Look at that sweet little face.
