FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Republican Gov. Matt Bevin has asked a judge to close a Lexington abortion clinic the governor says is operating without a license.

State law requires abortion clinics to have a license from the Health and Family Services Cabinet before they can operate. It also requires clinics to have a transfer agreement with a local hospital and an ambulance service.

Bevin's lawsuit says the Lexington clinic does not have a license and does not have a transfer agreement with a local ambulance service. The lawsuit also says the clinic is "filthy" and has multiple expired medications.

The clinic's director did not return a phone message seeking comment.

Bevin has filed a similar lawsuit against a Planned Parenthood clinic in Louisville.
