With the 2019 general election less than a week away, here’s what you need to know about every Northern Kentucky race, no matter where you live.

Statewide races

The following races will appear on every Kentucky ballot regardless of county or precinct.

Governor, Lt. Governor

  • Matt Bevin and Ralph Alvarado, Republican
  • Andy Beshear and Jacqueline Coleman, Democrat
  • John Hicks and Ann Cormican, Libertarian

Bevin, the Republican businessman and Army veteran, has promised to shore up the state’s pension system, improve infrastructure, update state tax code, and more.

Beshear, the current attorney general and son of former governor Steve Beshear, is touting the state’s Medicaid expansion and its pension system as the deciding factors for Kentuckians heading to the polls.

Attorney General

  • Daniel Cameron, Republican
  • Gregory Stumbo, Democrat

Cameron, a former Washington, D.C. lobbyist and University of Louisville football player, says he hopes to “depoliticize” the office of attorney general and "enhance its presence" beyond Frankfort. This summer, Cameron secured an endorsement from President Donald Trump, who touted the “new star” as “tough on crime, strong on borders.”

Former Kentucky AG Stumbo has 40 years of experience practicing law in Kentucky, a career during which he’s prosecuted corruption on both sides of the aisle. As AG, he founded the Kentucky Bureau of Criminal Investigations to combat drug abuse, cyber crimes and other issues.

Secretary of State

  • Michael Adams, Republican
  • Heather French Henry, Democrat

Adams of McCracken County has most recently served on the Kentucky Board of Elections, appointed by Gov. Matt Bevin, and was also general counsel for the Republican Governors Association for 12 years. His platform emphasizes making it easier for voters to cast ballots while making it harder to cheat.

Henry served as the commissioner and deputy commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs under governors Matt Bevin and Steve Beshear. In addition to increased voter security, Henry supports restoration of voting rights to non-violent criminal offenders and more civic education in K-12 schools.
