CARROLLTON, Ky. — Kentucky State Police arrested a 64-year-old Burlington man this week after an investigation into multiple sex crimes against children in Boone and Carroll counties dating back to 2017.

On Sept. 26, a KSP Post 5 detective responded to General Butler State Park in Carrollton to investigate a report of child sexual abuse, and it was reported that a suspect “had engaged in inappropriate physical contact with the victims on multiple occasions.”

That investigation found at least two victims, a 14-year-old and an 11-year-old. Investigators also discovered the suspect had allegedly sexually abused the children in multiple locations in Boone and Carroll counties dating back to 2017, when one of the victims was 8 years old.

Police arrested Gentry Dowell in Boone County on Monday, and he was charged in Carroll County with one count of first degree sex abuse of a victim under 12 and one count first degree sex abuse. He was also charged in Boone County with 10 counts of first degree sex abuse of a victim under 12.

On Tuesday, authorities added 15 counts in Boone County, including 10 counts of first degree rape of a victim under 12 years old and five counts of first degree sodomy of a victim under 12.

Dowell has been lodged at the Carroll County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.
