Mason High School student dead in ‘firearm incident'

A Mason High School student died in a “firearm incident" being investigated by police, said school officials.

Officials with the southern Warren County school system released a statement saying the 18-year-old senior died Sunday, The Journal-News reported. Butler County Coroner Lisa Mannix confirmed Wednesday that 18-year-old Avin Moore died of a gunshot wound at West Chester Hospital early Sunday morning.

“Our Mason City Schools community is grieving the loss of one of our Mason High School seniors, Avin Moore,” wrote Tracey Carson, spokeswoman for Mason Schools.

“Avin passed away on Sunday following an incident with a firearm. This is a tragic loss, and our hearts are with Avin’s family and friends,” said Carson.

“Please keep the Moore family in your hearts and prayers,” she said.

According to the Ryan Funeral Home in Mason, a funeral service will be held on Saturday.

Mason Police were unavailable to comment.
