CONNERSVILLE, Ind. -- Several students were hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after their school bus brakes failed, causing it to crash on its way to a swim meet.
Donna Milligan, who lives near the scene of the crash, said she heard screeching brakes and the sound of children screaming.
"It’s like my mind went completely blank," she said. "All I could think was, 'Get the kids out,' and the adrenaline rush just took over, and I took off running."
She was able to rescue the bus driver, whose legs were trapped under the steering wheel, and help all of the students safely out of the vehicle.
No one on the bus was seriously injured, police said.
