Crash with highway patrol car leaves one dead in Batavia

BATAVIA, OH — A driver is dead after a head-on collision involving an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper Friday night.

Anthony Bertram, 36, of Goshen, OH, was driving his Ford pickup truck north on State Route 222 around 9:53 p.m. Friday night, when a Ohio State Highway Patrol vehicle crossed the center line and struck him head-on, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Bertram was pronounced dead at the scene.

Trooper Jeremy Ault, the driver of the patrol car, was transported to a nearby hospital and is in serious condition.

Lt. Sellers, spokesperson for the Ohio State Highway Patrol told WCPO that more information will become available following the completion of their preliminary report. He also said that Ault did not have his lights or sirens engaged at the time of the crash.
