Assistant chief Paul Neudigate said there was a large crowd near the scene but that they were not protesters. The crowd prevented first responders from getting to the shooting victim quickly, Neudigate said.
The shooting happened about 20 minutes before curfew went into effect. Sgt. Eric Franz said officers would announce on PAs that curfew was in effect at 11 p.m. in an effort to “get compliance without making arrests.”
Spoke to Assistant Police Chief Neudigate just now. Tells me this large crowd was not related to recent protests for George Floyd. That crowd DID prevent officers from responding to victim quickly he says. Victim w/ serious injuries and could succumb to those per Neudigate. @WCPO https://t.co/CUmLvT6WN3 pic.twitter.com/pmeImD496m
