LOVELAND, Ohio -- If you caught Good Morning Tri-State live from Anchor Julie O'Neill's kitchen on Wednesday, you know she and her daughter Samantha whipped up their Uncle Brigham's favorite chocolate pie.

Watch the process in the video player below.

They also taught us some safe cooking practices throughout the process. Here's how you can make this scrumptious confection at home:

Over medium heat in a medium-sized sauce pan combine:

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 heaping tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa

Lastly you add three egg yolks, and stir continuously until the consistency is like a thick pudding. Then you will simply pour the contents of the sauce pan into a nice graham cracker crust.

Next we go to our mixer. We want to mix:

  • three egg whites
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

Beat all of this until soft peaks form. Whites will be fluffier if they are at room temperature. After the white peaks have formed, gradually add 6 tablespoons of sugar, beating until stiff and glossy. With a spatula, spread the meringue on top of the pie.

Place the pie in your oven on broil and watch it closely. You will want to take it out as soon as you see some browning over the top, so no multitasking.

Then deliver this pie to the person you are most grateful for! He or she will love you for it! Happy Thanksgiving!
