CINCINNATI -- More than 20 local cancer organizations are coming together to celebrate and recognize the survivors, patients, caregivers, researchers and volunteers who have been touched by the disease.

Knock Cancer Out of the Park is scheduled for Sept. 29.

The day will begin with a block party at The Banks with health activities and screenings, family entertainment, food trucks and music by the band Soul Pocket from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

During the Reds game against the Pittsburgh Pirates that afternoon, cancer survivors and supporters will be recognized as honorary game captains, during the first pitch and during other ceremonies. Nine children from Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center's "champions" program will also get to run on the field with Reds players.
