BATON ROUGE, La. -- A makeshift monument has arisen at the scene in front of the B-Quick convenient store on Airline Road, where a shootout broke out between officers and a gunman, resulting in three officers’ and the suspect’s deaths.
It’s an area that’s right in the heart of Baton Rouge, one recently redeveloped into a new, popular shopping center.
The day after police said 29-year-old Gavin Long opened fire, killing three officers and injuring three more, the grief felt by the city transcends race or age barriers, with many saying any progress made following the fatal officer-involved shooting of Alton Sterling, had vanished.
