NEW YORK — Police said Sunday that a man is in custody in connection with two police-involved shootings in 12 hours in the Bronx.

Authorities described the man as a "career criminal," who was convicted of attempted murder in 2002.

Surveillance video shows a man walking into the 41st precinct in Longwood and opening fire at around 8 a.m. ET on Sunday.

An officer was shot in the arm but is expected to be OK, authorities said.

This shooting came hours after an attack on two officers Saturday night, just blocks away.

One of the officers in that shooting was hit in the chin by a bullet, but is conscious and recovering in the hospital.

In a late-morning press conference, New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio expressed gratitude that the officers who were shot are alive.

"An attack on a police officer is an attack on all of us," DeBlasio said.

Police said the two incidents are related.
