The San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the legislative body of the consolidated city-county, passed a resolution Tuesday declaring the National Rifle Association a "domestic terrorist organization."

"The NRA has it coming to them," District 2 Supervisor Catherine Stefani told KTVU. "And I will do everything I possibly can to call them out on what they are, which is a domestic terrorist organization."

Stefani penned the resolution, which reads, in part "the National Rifle Association musters its considerable wealth and organizational strength to promote gun ownership and incite gun owners to acts of violence" and "spreads propaganda that misinforms and aims to deceive the public about the dangers of gun violence."

In addition to declaring the NRA a domestic terrorist organization, the San Francisco resolution also urges "other cities, states, and the federal government to do the same."

The resolution cites gun violence statistics and also specifically mentions the mass shooting that killed three people at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California, on July 28. The gunman also died.

"On July 28, 2019, Gilroy, California became the 243rd community in the United States to be the victim of a mass shooting," the resolution reads.

The NRA tweeted a response to the resolution Wednesday morning.

"This is a reckless assault on a law-abiding organization, it’s members, and the freedoms they all stand for," the tweet says. "We remain undeterred - guided by our values and belief in those who want to find real solutions to violence."

According to KTVU, Stefani wrote the resolution in July following the Gilroy shooting.
