MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. -- A Florida sheriff's office said a husband and wife are dead, and a neighbor was seriously injured, after a violent and gruesome attack Monday night.
The Martin County (Florida) Sheriff’s Office said it received a call from a neighbor saying he’d been stabbed as he was trying to break up a fight.
The first deputy to arrive found the suspect, who identified himself as Austin Michael Moore, on top of the male victim in the driveway.
The suspect was biting and removing pieces of the victim's face with his teeth, the office said.
The deputy tried to remove the suspect, using a stun gun, but it had no effect.
A K-9 arrived, biting the suspect, but was still unable to get him off the victim.
The sheriff's office said deputies were eventually able to pry the suspect off and take him into custody.
The wife of the husband was found inside of the garage, deceased.
The neighbor, whose father identified as Jeff Fisher, 47, was rushed to Good Samaritan hospital, and is in surgery. He is expected to survive. Fisher's father said his son tried to stop the attack.
The sheriff's office said the suspect and victims knew each other, but the relationship is uncertain.
Deputies are working to confirm the identity of the suspect because they believe he provided a false identity to them.
An associate of the suspect has been located and she is being questioned.
