More than 50K pounds of raw ground beef recalled due to possible E. coli contamination

Grant Park Packing is recalling more than 50,000 pounds of raw ground beef due to possible E. coli contamination.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, "the bulk raw ground beef was produced on October 30-31, 2018 and November 1, 2018."

Recall details:

  • Item Description: 40-lb. bulk cardboard boxes of “North Star Imports & Sales, LLC. 100% GROUND BEEF BULK 80% LEAN/ 20% FAT”
  • Lot Code: GP.1051.18
  • Establishment Number: “EST. 21781” (inside the USDA mark of inspection)

"FSIS advises all consumers to safely prepare their raw meat products, including fresh and frozen, and only consume ground beef that has been cooked to a temperature of 160°F," the USDA website reads.

The recall comes after at least 156 people in 10 states were infected with E. coli after eating tainted ground beef at home and in restaurants, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials said.
