WESTERVILLE, Ohio (AP) — The police cruiser doors of two Ohio officers shot and killed in the line of duty are on display in Washington, D.C., during National Police Week.

Officers Anthony Morelli and Eric Joering, of the Columbus suburb of Westerville were fatally shot in February 2018 after responding to a hang-up 911 call. Authorities say they were shot as they entered a central Ohio home where police had made previous calls for domestic disputes.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as police week.

The National Police Week website says the week of events draws tens of thousands of law enforcement officers to the nation's capital.
