Brendan Dassey, the Wisconsin man convicted as a teenager in the murder of Teresa Halbach, may soon be free from prison.

Dassey, 26, won a court order Friday that could result in his getting a new trial or being freed from prison, the Journal-Sentinel reports.

Dassey was 16 when he was convicted along with his uncle, Steven Avery, in the 2005 murder of Halbach. Their story was documented in the Netflix series "Making a Murderer."

The decision by federal Magistrate William Duffin in Milwaukee gives prosecutors 90 days to decide whether to retry Dassey.

Dassey argued that his constitutional rights were violated in the way that the case against him was investigated.
