CINCINNATI -- Veterans from Greater Cincinnati boarded a plane Tuesday for the first honor flight of 2017.

World War II, Korea and Vietnam War veterans over age 65 can board honor flights to Washington D.C. There, the veterans can see their monuments.

The trip is free for veterans who want to participate.

"For many of our veterans, a trip to Washington to see their memorials is not financially or physically possible," the Tri-State Honor Flight website says. "This is the mission of Honor Flight Tri-State: to make that dream come true for as many veterans as possible. If a veteran does not have a family member to accompany them, we will assign a qualified and enthusiastic guardian, ready to assist them on their trip of a lifetime."
