FRANKLIN, Ohio -- A woman is in critical condition after she was hit by a vehicle on Ohio 73 in Franklin Thursday morning, police said. Kayle Helton, 20, was struck when she was tending to her crashed car.

Police and medics were dispatched to the area of westbound Ohio 73 near North Breiel Boulevard in Franklin around 3:45 a.m. Thursday on a reported pedestrian crash. They found Helton, of Middletown, and transported her to Atrium Medical Center, then transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

Franklin police Lt. Wayne Bowling said an initial investigation found a woman was walking in the middle of the roadway when she was hit by the vehicle. It was later revealed that Helton had crashed her car into a woodline, which was not visible from the roadway. She was struck when she exited the vehicle and made her way to the road, according to Franklin Police Chief Russ Whitman.

Helton was struck by a Nissan Sentra driven by 61-year-old Jack Bolser of Middletown. Bolser was not injured.

Franklin police are still investigating both crashes. Anyone with information in these cases is asked to call Franklin police at 937-746-2882.
