CLEARCREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio – While authorities investigate the death of an infant boy, two family members are sharing their grief and wondering what happened.
Two-month-old Cayden Colwell was not breathing when first responders arrived at a Warren County home last Thursday. He died at Children’s Hospital on Sunday, according to Clearcreek Township police.
Cayden’s great grandmother and great aunt are understandably shocked.
“I got a call from my granddaughter. She said the father had just called her and said the baby was unresponsive,” said Carolyn Hopkins, Cayden’s great grandmother.
“We just want answers. If it was an accident, say it,” said Christal Ward-Hipsher, Cayden’s great aunt. “Whoever ... whatever happens, tell us! Just give us some closure.”
"I was scared,” said Hopkins. “I didn’t know what was going on. I just couldn’t imagine what could’ve happened. I just thought, well, maybe he fell.”
The Monday report from the Hamilton County coroner said the baby’s cause of death was still pending.
Hopkins said Cayden was just getting “at that cute age.”
“He was just getting at the age where if you talked to him, he just laughed and coo at you,” she said.
Hopkins and Ward-Hipsher are asking for help on a GoFundMe page to pay for a proper funeral.
“Nobody plans to bury a child, and all of a sudden … So just to help out if they can,” Ward-Hipsher said.
Clearcreek Township police said they will give us updates on their investigation as they come available.
