CINCINNATI — A man pleaded guilty to charges in the death of his 15-month-old niece on Friday.

Hamilton County Judge Patrick Dinkelacker sentenced Recardo Woods, 20, to 25 years in jail after Woods pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault and endangering children. According to police, Woods backhanded his niece, 15-month-old Kassidy, while she and her younger sister were in his care in April, 2018. Kassidy died at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center of blunt force trauma to the head. Kassidy's sister, Korri, was also treated at the hospital.

Woods later admitted to striking both girls, according to Cincinnati police.

"I lost my daughter and now my brother," said Brandon Smith, Kassidy's father and Woods' brother, in court Friday.

Danielle Stallworth, Kassidy and Korri's mother, told WCPO that her family can finally close this chapter of their lives.

"He got what he deserved. We got our closure," Stallworth said.
