LUDLOW, Ky. -- Police said family caretakers for a disabled teen neglected him to death.

Joseph Bishop's mother, grandmother and grandfather were arrested and charged in connection to his death. The 18-year-old died Feb. 11 at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Joseph's mother, Jamie Bishop, grandfather Raymond Martin and grandmother Sharon Martin are all charged with second-degree manslaughter.

Court documents said Joseph had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and "has been bed ridden as a result" for the past two years. Hospital officials said the teen should have gone to the doctor twice per week, but he has not been since Oct. 2014.

The Kenton County prosecutor said Jamie Bishop and the Martins "cause(d) the death of Joseph Bishop by failing to provide adequate care and failing to provide medical treatment" between Nov. 11, 2016 and Feb. 11 2017. Children's hospital staff called police when Joseph Bishop was brought into the hospital with sepsis "as a result of abuse and/or neglect," according to court documents.

An affidavit said Joseph has bed sores on his arms legs and back that were "so large that muscles and bone were exposed."

Joseph's grandfather, Raymond Martin, told police it had "been months since Joseph was out of bed," court documents say.
