FORT WRIGHT, Ky. -- Once a Dixie Heights Colonel, always a Dixie Heights Colonel.

That’s what Todd Newton and his father, Darrell, say.

The Newton’s are co-owners of Sparrow and Newton’s, a barber shop near Dixie Heights High School.

Sparrow and Newton’s customers are usually clad in gray and red, and there’s no shortage of Colonel conversation.

Darrell and Todd’s family has a long history at the high school; Darrell graduated in 1964, Todd started his career as a Colonel in 1979, and both have coached football at Dixie for years.

“That's where my love is - at Dixie,” Todd said.

The shop’s other owner, Harry Sparrow, went to Boone County High School, but the Newton’s say they’ve “converted” him.

And it’s a good thing, a lot of the shop’s customers are coaches or parents of a Dixie student.

“Same stories, same stories … they get better though,” Todd said with a smile.
